One of the goals of the studio is to convene scholars, artists, and activists to foster a critically informed discourse about the relationship between activism, scholarship, and art-making. Our members have produced several notable works as part of our studio.

Finding Home (2021)

Finding Home is a SSHRC-funded international research-creation collaboration bringing together academics, artists and migrants from Toronto (CA), London (UK) and Sydney (AU) to explore the complex intersection between forced migration and new place-making strategies through art and storytelling.

Embodied Teaching and the Precarious Labor of Social Media Justice (2021)

This article, co-written by SMACT co-director Meera Govindasamy and Johnathan Petrychyn, explores their experiences navigating the virtual learning environment, embracing strategies of embodied teaching, and engaging students through their Social Justice Media class.
